Trigger Fish:
A reef inhabiting fish Trigger Fish have laterally flat bodies, heavy scales, and tough abrasive skin. Trigger fish have three strong sharp spines along the dorsal fin. These spines lock in place when the fish is alarmed. The spine is unlocked by pulling back on the spine which is where this fish gets it's name. When a Trigger Fish is fleeing a predator or hooked the fish swims into the reef or rocks and locks it's spines in place which effectly jams the fish in the hole or rocks.
The Triggerfish in Rocky Point, Sonora Mexico are colored with smudges of browns, yellows and grays. Triggerfish can grow to 2 ft in length and weigh on average 2 to 6 lb. Triggerfish win the Boyds Fishing.com ugliest fish mouth award. They have small mouths filled with powerful, sharp teeth and remind me of Piranahs.
