Cabrilla Pinta (Epinephelus analogus):
If you can stand being knocked around and have good balance then fishing in the ocean is great fun. The Pinta (spotted cabrilla bass) shown in the photo below was caught in Rocky Point about 17 miles out. We were fishing from a converted PT Boat in about 80 feet of water. It was rough enough to make even veterans a little green.
Cabrilla are found in rocky areas or reefs. They can be caught on cut bait, squid or shrimp off the bottom. If fishing from shore ignore sandy bottom areas and look for rocks. Around the mouths of coves or estuaries are good places to use lures like Acme Lures Slim Jim, Need-L-Eel, Kastmaster or a Luhr Jensen Krocodile. Good luck in all your fishing endevors. Acme Kastmaster $ 2.59
Kastmaster's balance produces wild action without line twist! Because of its aerodynamic design, it's the master distance caster, and catches fish from pan-sized trout to bragging-size stripers - in fresh and salt water. The Kastmaster is machined from solid brass. It won't break, bend or corrode and it retains its luster even after repeated exposure to salt water.
