Northern Pike (Esox Lucieus):
This is not a fish tale, really! While on a genealogy trip to Northern Ireland looking for our ancestors I went fishing and caught Northern Pike on a lure made in Australia. The lure was a "Tasmanian Devil®" manufactured by Wigstons Lures. We were actually trolling for Brown Trout when the Northern Pike pictured below were caught.
Northern pike lurk in weedy protected coves or bays. They are a fierce predatory fish that will eat anything they can grab including frogs, smaller fish and crawfish. In Michigan relatives saw something eat a small poodle that was fetching a stick in the water. Another friend while in Canada saw a squirrel fall off a limb into the water and before he could think "that was funny" a huge Northern Pike ate it!
