Dedication To My Grandfathers

Lawerance Boyd Fishing Story Continued:

G
randpa Boyd adhered strictly to the rules that Steve outlines in the introductory page of his web site. When you went out on the lake, no whining was allowed about being tired, hungry or the need to go to the john. These rules were rather subtle but well understood by Larry and I. Even if the fish weren’t biting or we got sunburned we stayed the whole day. In fairness I must add that we did take bologna sandwiches with us to eat for lunch.

Jack Boyd
Grandpa was very patient with us. All we had were bamboo poles to use for fishing. When I got a fish on my line, I got so excited that I pulled the pole out of the water so hard that it flew up in the air and landed on the other side of the boat. Grandpa never said a word – something that he was known to do – if you know what I mean. He was also very patient about baiting the hooks for us and prying hooks from the fish’s mouth when we let the fish swallow it.

You can see by the pictures that we had big hats to shield us from the sun and a small string of pan fish at the end of the day.
